The 5E Lesson Design model has been around for many years. Essentially it gives a lesson planning structure to the constructivism philosophy. Used mainly in the beginning by science, many other disciplines have adopted this framework as well.
The 5Es are:
Engage- a small engaging experience that grabs students' attention.
Explore- an experience of the concept to be learned.
Explain- making sense of the experience, finding patterns, answering guiding questions.
Elaborate- an additional activity where students will apply their new knowledge.
Evaluate- a formative, hinge or summative assessment. May be formal or informal.
